Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ

It is quite frequently the case that the paper quality you have used is not correct. For example, if you use an inkjet printer, using a standard photo copy paper will not work very well. Photo copy paper is actually quite fibrous, and the ink will run along the paper fibres, this gives a very blurred and smudged image. It is particularly important for a small area like a badge so we always recommend you use the correct paper for your printer.
A transfer is made up of a carrier paper and inks. When heated to a certain temperature and pressed with a significant amount of pressure for a certain amount of time, the transfer inks are passed over to the imprintable material. Some inks are adhered and embedded to the surface of the material, while others (namely, sublimation) permeate the coating of the material.
The following are some of the far more common items often heat pressed. The list by no means ends here. T-Shirts, Caps, Ceramic Plates, Ceramic Tiles, Mugs, Mouse Pads, Paper Memo Cubes, Tote Bags, Jigsaw Puzzles, Lettering, Numbers, Rhinestones/Crystals, Wood / Metals Other Misc. Fabrics & Materials.
A heat press is the machine that presses a transfer onto an imprintable substrate. Using high temperatures and heavy pressures for a certain amount of time, the transfer is permanently embedded into the product. Heat presses are recommended for professional and satisfying results simply because standard laminating devices and home hand irons can not get even near the temperatures required for a reliable transfer. Standard transfers require anywhere from 180 to 220 degrees demand serious force in pressing. These temperatures and pressures are simply not possible with other heated devices.

Temperature: 200℃

Time: 3min to 4 min.(depending on the type of press)

Pressure: Heavy

1. Print transfer and trim to slightly smaller size than mug.

2. Attach the transfer in position to the mug with heat resistant tape.

3. Wrap the mug with a teflon sheet or plain white paper.

4. Place the mug in the press and press for 4 - 4 1/2 minutes

5. Remove the mug from the press and remove the transfer immediately(A plastic plate-scraper will help).

6. Place in water to cool or leave in clean, dry area

Additional notes:

1. Ceramic mugs tend to taper from top to bottom. This ‘inconsistency’ can make it difficult to apply full wrap transfers to a mug and can compromise the imaging. Moistening the transfer or using additional tape to fasten the transfer securely can help eliminate problems.

2. It is important to recognize what your specific mugs’ ‘safe area’ is. It is suggested that you make a test mug to define an area that you can depend on for quality results. For example, an average mug may take an image up to 1/2 inch of the top and bottom and no closer than 1 inch of the handles horizontally.

1.The most important thing to look for in a heat press is its ability to provide consistently even temperatures across the platen. One of the most frequent causes of misapplied transfers is cold spots in the platen. Cold spots occur when there is not enough heating element used in the manufacturing of the platen, or if there is a short or disconnect in the heating element within the platen.

2.In addition to providing even heat, a heat press must be designed to accurately control the temperature. When you apply transfers, proper application temperature is essential to the success of the finished garment. If you apply a transfer with too little heat, the adhesives needed to hold the graphic to the garment may not be activated. If you apply a transfer with too much heat, the adhesives may be pushed out beyond the edges of the image and cause an undesired outline or smearing. Excessive heat can also cause “strike-through”, which reduces the opacity of a graphic.

3.The key to even pressure is the way the upper platen is engineered. A centralized pressure adjustment, coupled with a flotational heat platen ensures a “no-pinch” application result regardless of the thickness of the application substrate. One way to test for even pressure on a press is to put four squares of paper, one in each corner, and close the press. Try to pull out the papers. If one paper comes out easier than the others, it is possible that your platen is warped and not providing even pressure across the platen.

Temperature: 185°

Time: 15 Seconds for transfer paper 60seconds for sublimation paper Pressure: Heavy

1. Prepare your artwork and transfer with consideration to the size of the Tee shirt.

2. Spread a teflon sheet (or white paper) on the bottom of the press.

3. Slide a teflon sheet inside the shirt to protect the back of the shirt from sublimation

4. Place the shirt, face-up, on the platform, smoothing out folds and wrinkles.

5. Place the transfer, face-down, in position on the shirt.

6. Cover the shirt and transfer with a teflon sheet, assuring the transfer and shirt remain in position.

7. Remove the shirt from the press.

8. Allow to cool on a clean surface.

Additional notes:

1. Please take note of the adjustment of the handle to be suitable for pressing T shirt.

2. You may choose to “pre-press” your garment for 5 seconds to remove moisture that may be present.

Now dye sublimation printing is answer!

Dye sublimation is with very simple process, it is the method of applying images on mug, plate, T-shirt, cap, metal board, puzzle, mouse pad, tile, lighter, metal and so on.

You could use any photoes you favourite to press(print) on these kinds of materials, then as personal gifts or commemorative products, or even marketing promotion products and incentive products.

We are the one of biggest manufacture of heat press machine, mug press machine, plate press machine, cap press machine, we could provide OEM/ODM service for you, our guarantee is to offer you the best service and provide high quality produts you need.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact with us. We will check and reply to you at earlist. Looking forward to receiving your inquiries.

Dye-sublimation printers allow you to print photo-lab-quality pictures at home. As the price of these printers go down, more and more digital-camera owners are choosing to take advantage of this technology. In dye-sublimation printing, colors are not laid down as individual dots, as is done in inkjet printers. Individual dots can be distinguished at a relatively close distance, making digital pictures look less realistic.

If you looked inside a dye-sublimation printer, you would see a long roll of transparent film that resembles sheets of red, blue, yellow, and gray colored cellophane stuck together end to end. Embedded in this film are solid dyes corresponding to the four basic colors used in printing: cyan, magenta, yellow and black. The print head heats up as it passes over the film, causing the dyes to vaporize and permeate the glossy surface of the paper before they return to solid form.

So the main difference between this and other types of printing have to do with heat. The vaporized colors permeate the surface of the paper, creating a gentle gradation at the edges of each pixel, instead of the conspicuous border between dye and paper produced by inkjets. And because the color infuses the paper, it is also less vulnerable to fading and distortion over time.

Can I use my ink jet printer to transfer onto mugs and tiles?

Not using any standard ink jet heat transfer papers. You would have to set up a separate printer with special sublimation inks and paper, then use special coated tiles and mugs.

What makes the best transfer? Color Laser or Ink Jet?

The newest ink jet transfers actually wash better than the existing laser papers. Although the printers are inexpensive, the cost to make a transfer, however, is much greater for ink jet, both for the paper as well as inks. Additionally, the ink jets are considerably slower than lasers. If you are going to be making a more than part time effort at decorating items for resale, we recommend laser. They give you the ability to print on almost anything, including ceramics

My papers are peeling off after washing. What am I doing wrong Most likely it is that you are not using enough pressure. If you are using a hand iron, be sure to place the garment on a table at waist height, so you can put two hands on the iron and put some body weight behind it to put heavy pressure on the garment.

If you are using a heat press, set it for heavy pressure, so that it takes good effort to close the press. Also, make sure your press is actually at the temperature that the thermometer say it is.

What is the best ink jet printer to use for transfers?

Our experience is that the Epson line provides excellent image quality and better wash ability, printers vary from the type as well as from what country the ink was made in, causing quite a variation in wash results.

Can heat transfers be used for something other than T shirts and mouse pads?

Yes. You can transfer onto wood, plastic, vinyl, magnetic material, and even some painted metals!
